Michaela’s Favourite Photographs: #7 Fishing Grounds
Puerto Escondido, Mexico 2018. There has to be at least one wildlife shot in a collection such as this. Each of the seven beaches of Puerto Escondido has a character all of its own, ranging from gentle family friendly waters to the giant rollers of the Mexican Pipeline surfing beaches. The pelicans, perhaps counter intuitively, gather on the town beach closest to civilisation – but then, this is also where the fishermen are, fish must be at their most plentiful right here. This shot combining the majesty of a big bird with the power of the waves perfectly captures part of the essence of the town beach.

Karolina’s Coincidence
When we first met Karolina, she was upside down. Looking out across the spectacular desert scenery of Jordan as the sunset swathed the rock formations in ochre shades, but upside down nonetheless. Beautiful Places #2: Puerto Escondido
Those of us fortunate enough to be well travelled regularly have to field the question: “so where is the best place you’ve ever been?” And we all know that it’s an impossible question to answer, you can’t compare a vibrant city with a mountain village, a coastal resort with an ancient palace, or a hedonistic wine region with a spot by the sacred Ganges. However, if pushed for a top five, Puerto Escondido would always be in there, and, moreover, if the question was couched as “where have you been where felt happiest”, we are both very likely to give the same answer.
