Jordan: the final countdown
Last day today before we head off on our next adventure to Jordan, leaving behind an England which has seen winter’s last blast this week. After some delightful Spring weather in March, the last week or so has seen snowfall further north, and even here in the South East we’ve seen hailstorms and much rain, driven by a piercing cold wind off the North Sea.
Jordan of course will be warmer, but not yet the intense heat of desert summer. In fact out in the desert camps, the nights will be chilly, making packing choices a talking point. We’re expecting T-shirt daytimes, but in readiness for the evenings we have sweatshirts and our bajas bought in Mexico, hoping they’re enough for the nights under the stars. If they’re not enough, it’ll probably be a trip to a Jordanian market. After all, we own not only bajas from Mexico but also jellabas from Morocco so why not add to our international wardrobe?!
Of course, packing is further complicated by protocol: no bare shoulders or arms for Michaela, long trousers rather than shorts for both of us, for the most part.
There’s lots to anticipate with excitement: the wonderful ancient site of Petra, time in the desert, unspoilt starry skies, Bedouin hospitality, camel rides, the road trips, floating in the Dead Sea, our first Middle East city, and of course the food. Middle Eastern food in its home environment promises to be stunning.
Time for our next adventure.
