If It’s In Your Heart…
It seems just about impossible that my first trip to Padstow was over forty years ago, in 1979 in fact. Since then I have visited Cornwall, and Padstow, so many times that I couldn’t even hazard a guess, but I do know that it’s a very long time since the little harbour town, the surrounding Camel Estuary and the wonderful Atlantic coastline found its way into my soul.
When a place gets you like that, it rarely leaves you. To this day, over 42 years later, I still give an excited shout as we cross the boundary into Cornwall, and get a sense of joy as we pass the signs to Chapel Amble and I know we are almost there. Almost home, even.
We are now lucky enough to own a property in the town itself, just walking distance from the delightful harbour. To start our favourite walks along the coast path doesn’t require a car, we can just set off on foot from our front door. Because the house is a holiday let, we don’t usually get to spend any summertime there, but this year it was a Godsend to be able to escape there when COVID restrictions were first lifted.
That excitement is burning again now, as we are headed back to Padstow this coming weekend. Essentially, it’s a working visit: a bathroom refit to ensure the house continues to look spick and retains its four star rating, but the thought that we’ll be in that wonderful place in just one day’s time, supping ale in the pubs around the harbour and soaking up those familiar beautiful sights, is more than fabulous.
I just simply love the place.
Here are a few photos from previous visits…….

Gorgeous captures. Owning a property here that is within walking distance from the harbour sounds lovely.

I think that it so true that some places just become part of your soul. And what a lovely place to call your second home! So glad that you get to go and spend some time there 🙂

As idyllic and as wonderful as your getaway to the Greek isles was, nearby Padstow still sounds like a fabulous second home to you both. I hope you can get in some wandering and pub time in and not just working on the bathroom all weekend.

Ah…I should explain that we’re not doing the refit ourselves…we’re just getting the contractors started this weekend, then returning when they’re finished!

Purely by accident: a genuine case of bird photo bombing

That’s quite something. Wow! I have very fond memories of crossing the Tamar into Cornwall and it was so special, such a special time. Love those photographs!

It sure is!

Love the bird bomb! To my Australian eye, these villages in Cornwall look so quaint and something from an ABC/BBC TV series.
