Days Are Numbers
I don’t know if I’m supposed to get permission to do this, but bloggers are always reproducing quotes so why not song lyrics. These are the full lyrics to a rather wonderful song, “Days Are Numbers (The Traveller)” by the Alan Parsons Project. A song we very much relate to….especially just now…..
The traveller is always leaving town
He never has the time to turn around
And if the road he’s taken isn’t leading anywhere
He seems to be completely unaware
The traveller is always leaving home
The only kind of life he’s ever known
When every moment seems to be a race against the time
There’s always one more mountain left to climb
Days are numbers, watch the stars
We can only see so far
Some day you’ll know where you are
Remember – days are numbers, count the stars
We can only go so far
One day you’ll know where you are
The traveller awaits the morning tide
He doesn’t know what’s on the other side
But something deep inside of him is telling him to go
He hasn’t found a reason to say no
The traveller is only passing through
He cannot understand your point of view
Abandoning reality, unsure of what he’ll find
The traveller in me is close behind
Days are numbers, watch the stars
We can only see so far
Some day, you’ll know where you are
Remember – days are numbers, count the stars
We can only go so far
One day you’ll know where you are

Crumbs…that made me want to pack the carry on bag and take off, just as we used to.

Yes! Limited time left, and all that. Actually, this song used to be my theme even before I retired – I travelled a lot for work (in the UK) and was often away from home, it was kind of a signature tune.

I can see why this would resonate with you – but does this mean you are off again already?!

Hi Sarah…no, not yet, we have an impasse. See next post!

Hadn’t heard this before, thanks for introducing. Hoping the impasse is nothing too concerning.

I know prog rock is oft ridiculed, but it was my era and I still love listening to it. Alan Parsons is up there with my favourites. It triggers all the nostalgia reactions!

Maybe you were a Romany in another life!

Ha! I did earn a living which meant extensive travel throughout the UK, and I never stopped loving it. My alarm was set at 5:10 for a lot of years…

I didn’t know this song, just looked it up on YouTube. So appropriate for you… but not “completely unaware”. It resonates for me too.

One of my favourite bands, and a great song.
