Next Up: Cape Verde Islands
It’s time to load those backpacks again and head out of the rain which continues to douse England. This trip will be a short one by our standards, just a three week tour to see some of the Cape Verde Islands and witness for ourselves the exotic sounding mix of African and Portuguese cultures.
We’re off on Monday (20th), flying out to the island of Boa Vista via Lisbon. Moving between the islands is not straightforward with conflicting on line information about both ferries and flights. As a result we haven’t yet finalised all of our plans and will see what we can do once we get to the second island.
A little bit of uncertainty and mystery, just the way we like it.

Well, if you want dry weather you are going to the right place….though given a recent post I begin to wonder whether you will be giving the islands a watery present.

Here’s hoping not!
Heyjude
Used to be a stop on route to South Africa back in the day, but you weren’t allowed off the plane. I look forward to seeing your photos.

Fantastic. We will be in Praia and Sal, Cape Verdes, in April arriving on a South Atlantic repositioning small ship cruise from Ushuaia, We will look forward to your reports. Safe travels!

Coincidence! We will definitely be heading to Praia, so will be able to give you a little insight hopefully…

I’ll be very interested to hear what you think about the islands. We had a brief visit a few years ago, organised at short notice so there was limited hotel availability. Sal we both found dull, but I liked Praia. However Chris was underwhelmed and reckons it’s our least good trip of recent years! But with three weeks to explore I feel sure you’ll get to some of the more interesting islands.
Phil & Michaela
Well, Sal isn’t on our agenda so we won’t see that at all. Beyond Boa Vista and Santiago (Praia) we’re not sure yet due to the connection issues, but we’re really hoping we can get to Fogo, where the active volcano is. We’ll see!

I wish to say too, that a 3-week vacation is a short one🙂
Have fun!!

Interestingly, I’ve made a note of Cape Verde and the Azores as a jocker in case the European winter grows too long. So far I haven’t felt the same urgency for sunshine as I did in Toronto, where my winter escape was Latin America. I’ll be following your articles with interest, as always.
