Cornwall Calling
We aren’t yet in a position to organise any foreign trips but with COVID restrictions easing we can at least now travel within the UK and so tomorrow we head off down to Cornwall, where we will be based in Padstow for the next ten days. We are fortunate enough to own a property in Padstow itself, which we rarely get to visit in high season as in normal times it is used as a holiday let to provide some income in our retirement, but this year we are so starved of travel that we’ve snaffled a few weeks for our own use – in fact we will be there for the best part of four weeks out of the next six.
This is a joy, and not simply because a change of scenery will be extremely welcome, but also because of all the wonderful places we’ve travelled to around the world, Padstow and the Camel Estuary remains one of our favourites and we always love being there. Spending extended time there will enable us to rediscover (and discover!) more of Cornwall.
Even though this will be very far from “normal”, with pubs and restaurants only able to provide outdoor catering, we are very much relishing what will be our first trip away from our home in 2021.
Cornwall is calling….

Congratulations! We just returned from a short trip to the Serbian city of Novi Sad. Makes a huge difference to the old mental health. Looking forward to your report.

Cornwall is very beautiful ❤️. Congratulations on being able to travel, and having your own property makes of that much safer. Have a great holiday,

Wonderful! I’m looking forward seeing beautiful photo’s of Cornwall (and Padstow) – enjoy your well-deserved holiday … hope there are some sunshine involved 🌞.

Thank you. At the minute it’s very bright here but unusually cold for April, with sharp frosts and temperatures nit really getting above 10 centigrade, which is cold for mid April.

Corwall is full of lovely places, it reminds me of daytrips from Bath where I spent a few summers.
Phil & Michaela
Yep, looking forward to being back there

Your getaway to Padstow sounds like our “happy place” at Florida’s Grayton Beach State Park in the sense you get to relax and recharge your batteries. I hope the weather warms up for you so you can enjoy outdoor dining since you’ll have so much time there!
Phil & Michaela
It’s definitely our happy place, so picturesque with of course a dramatic Atlantic coastline. Absolutely love the place!

That’s a great place to own a holiday home! I’m sure in ‘normal’ years it’s very popular with holiday-makers but it’s great to be able to make use of it yourselves this year 🙂 Have a wonderful holiday – I look forward to seeing lots of coastal scenery etc’ in your forthcoming posts! We’re planning a visit to Newcastle next month and more UK trips later in the year I hope 🙂
Phil & Michaela
Thank you Sarah, it is a lovely place to have a holiday home, we don’t usually get there during the season or good weather as we let it out so this will be a real treat. Infact we are lucky to get it now as the bookings flooded in as soon as allowed and it is now fully booked from June to September. There will be plenty of photos coming, camera already packed. 😁We look forward to your posts on Newcastle too, interesting to know more about it, my Brother has just bought a house in the region so we will be visiting him in the future. 😊

There is plenty I can post about Newcastle! My husband is from the city and we usually visit 3 or 4 times a year 🙂

We look forward to it! My Sister in law is actually from there so they are moving there to be closer to her family. 😊

How nice to have somewhere to call home while you’re there. Looking forward to your coming posts on Cornwall!
Phil & Michaela
Thank you, yes it’s really good to actually get a length of time there for ourselves. Really looking forward to it.

Nice! Enjoy!
Heyjude
How lovely to have a place in Padstow. We were thinking of having a week around that area so we can explore north Cornwall more, probably over the estuary in Rock or Polzeath. A bit too far for a day trip from where we live. Hope the weather remains fine for you, it is supposed to be dry with a few showers possible and warming up over the next week. I just hope the outdoor venues aren’t too packed and you can enjoy eating out.
Phil & Michaela
Thank you! So looking forward to spending a decent amount of time down there. The Rock/Polzeath side is beautiful of course, but (in normal times) there are more eating/drinking options in Padstow. But the whole area is such walking country that it doesn’t matter too much where you stay.

Have fun! I’ve never been to Cornwall so looking forward to reading about it:) Maggie

I have not been to Padstow yet, but I think we will be visiting it in May, perhaps if you guys are still there we can meet up for a drink? Cornwall is so beautiful, but fingers crossed for good weather.
Phil & Michaela
Yes definitely, we are here 7-21 May so would be great to meet up if you’re here in that time frame
