Photographic Memories #22
As every traveller knows, when you look back through old travel photos, many of them trigger wonderful memories. With lockdown incomplete and travel still on hold for a while, we currently have no new adventures to blog; we do though have many such memories…
Photo #22: Folegandros
We all have a liking for photographs of old buildings, dilapidated walls, tumbledown doors and the like, and pretty much all travellers have a growing collection of such shots. This one captures something slightly different for, as you can see, the building is for the most part well maintained, but has a down at heel section which oozes considerably more character than the pristine side.
Folegandros is one of the less rustic Greek islands with attractive towns and villages and well presented properties throughout; it is in fact a favoured holiday destination for discerning Italians. All the more interesting then to find this half decrepit building right in the heart of its rather classy chora town.

Lovely building. I’d definitely like to expand my collection of Greek islands one of these years. Only been to Crete (lovely) and Kavos (exceptionally unlovely).

It’s certainly worth doing that expansion because the character of the islands varies so much, even neighbouring islands can be totally different from each other. I’ve managed 11 so far but Michaela has far more experience here than me – she’s visited no less than 36 of them!

That’s impressive! Yet another travel project to keep in mind.

Had the good fortune to be stranded in Folegandros for three extra days when the Ferry schedules had a problem.
I am certain that I have that picture in my collection.

I just love the juxtaposition of the clean and pretty part of the building next to the much darker and dilapidated part of the building! What an incredible contrast on the same building!

Its all part of the charm of the Greek Islands 😊

I would love to see Greece and just wander through the towns admiring the buildings and sea… 🙂

Greece and its Islands are wonderful. We have been fortunate to visit many of the Islands and they each have there own character. The history there is fabulous. We hope you get to go there one day. 😊

Old and decrepit houses have a special charm as you can’ t help but think of their potential and how to restore them.

Plus the histories they hide behind their walls
