Photographic Memories #18
As every traveller knows, when you look back through old travel photos, many of them trigger wonderful memories. With lockdown incomplete and travel still on hold for a while, we currently have no new adventures to blog; we do though have many such memories…
Photo #18: Peace Amongst Madness
This photograph is special to us simply because it represents an atypical moment in the crazy city of Marrakech. With its souks buzzing with activity, its streets choked with slow moving traffic and a main square which is amongst the most exciting and lively places in any city on Earth, Marrakech is an onslaught of sight and sound from dawn till dusk. Yet as we wandered the tight streets behind the souks and tanneries, we stumbled on this peaceful scene which seems more suited to rural Morocco than the madness of Marrakech, as this guy ambled home with his donkey and cart.

I know, and Morocco has bags of atmosphere 😊

I have never been to Morocco, but it certainly is a place I would like to visit .

Its a fabulous country, we have had several trips there, some have taken us to the most remote areas where we are clearly the only visitors. Getting caught up the craziness of city, enjoying the tranquility of staying in an Oasis, experiencing the hospitality of bedouins and trekking in the mountains, the list goes on and we will always be happy to return. Infact before Covid we should have been there last summer to include a trek into the Sahara with camels and a night under canvas with the bedouins, oh well, there is always next year 😊

I like Marrakech except for the bartering. I am hopeless at it!

Aha! We have a post coming up on precisely that subject….watch this space!

I look forward to it.

Always intriguing discovering a new side to a city that one doesn’t normally expect. Marrakech is on our ‘list’ in the next year or two. Thanks for the reminder as to why we ought to to!

Great city and great country – well worth a visit!

Your wonderful photo brings back fond memories from our trip to Marrakech. Even thou we were there three years ago, I still remember it vividly! There’s certainly no place like it. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Aiva 🙂

Never been to Marrakech (but seen plenty of snippets on TV) … here, on your picture, one can almost feel the unreal calmness in this photo … knowing that on the other side of those walls are a commotion of people, vehicles and animals!

Marrakech is colourful to say the least! Morocco is a very interesting country, we should have been there again last year had it not been for Covid, had planned to stay in the Sahara with camels and Bedouins, oh well, there is always next year.
