The Curious Tale Of The Day Bag And The Dress
With our travel adventures for 2020 complete, and our plans for 2021 on hold until there’s more clarification around travel restrictions, we have nothing current to write about. We do, however, have a load of stories from past travels, which we hope may be interesting or amusing. Such as….
Puerto Tazacorte, La Palma, March 2018
The island of La Palma, in the Canaries, had given us better than expected sunshine and some great food. Puerto Tazacorte has its own charm, the blue Mediterranean and its snow white surf crashing on to the jet black volcanic sands of its beach.
After a day exploring the island by hire car we grabbed an hour or two on the beach and in the sea, but late afternoon brings a weakening sun and it was soon time to move on, most likely to that great little bar by the harbour. Unfortunately for Michaela, her bikini hadn’t dried and a beer in wet clothes would be uncomfortable, even on the pontoon bar in the setting sun.
She pulled on her beach dress – you know, one of those pretty little numbers with tassels – and removed the offending wet items of clothing. Of course, she now had nothing on under the beach dress, but it was only a couple of beers, what could possibly go wrong….
And so we enjoyed the sunset beer as the outdoor tables filled and the fishing fleet came home. After a second beer, we paid up and decided to head back to the apartment.
Unbeknown to me, under the table, the tassels on Michaela’s dress had become, inexplicably, entwined with the straps of my day bag in a unique act of self-ravelling. The result of this unfortunate event was that, as I hoisted my day bag up and over my shoulder, I also hoisted Michaela’s dress up to roughly the same level, granting all the other drinkers more than just a glimpse of bits of Michaela that should really not be for public viewing.
It’s a good job my wife has a sense of humour….

OMG this is hilarious!! Not for Micaela… but I have SO often gone from beach and a wet bikini to a restaurant and done exactly what she did, so I can relate. Such a great story!!! At the very least you should have received another free beer!
We have always wondered about Canary Islands, but not made it there, so it was interesting to see this little gem. Love the black sand beach.
Great post! nice to read you guys…

Glad you enjoyed it, we have laughed so much about it. As for the Canary Islands, La Palma is beautiful, so is La Gomera, lots of great walks and treks. We haven’t done the larger Islands like Tenerife and Lanzarote but they are renowned for package tours and the party crowd which isn’t to our taste, that doesn’t mean they aren’t beautiful islands though. Thanks for reading 😊

What a hilarious recounting of what transpired! I’m sure the other patrons didn’t forget their unexpected treat for a long time.
It made me think of my mum’s admonition to always wear clean panties “just in case” I was in an accident and had to be taken to the hospital and had to have my outer clothes cut off.

Yes indeed, seems like a good idea for a while……as you know!

We had such a laugh now 😅 … and not at the expense of Michaela … but we could just imagine the faces of the other beer drinkers (they probably wondered whether they had one too many to drink!)
Berto always have this very same saying (in tricky situations): “What on earth can go wrong?” … then we laugh, because normally something then go wrong 😂.

Ha, yes! You have to always try and see the funny side, it’s part of staying positive! It’s a good job Michaela has a sense of humour though, otherwise I might have been in bigger trouble!
