Split Decision

It’s four months now since we escaped Vietnam as the world closed its doors and our dream year of travelling fell apart after just 49 days and 3 countries. For the most part we have spent the intervening 123 days keeping ourselves safe and watching developments, always with one eye on borders reopening and controls loosening.

And at last things are moving. The UK now finds itself at the pinch point of weighing up a virus which has not yet gone away against a pressing need to reboot the economy, with the travel industry at the forefront of that reboot. This has seen the creation of so called “travel corridors”, creating mutually quarantine free passage with a number of nations.

Deciding what to do next is a matter of assessing whether we feel safe enough to travel (we do), confident that the travel corridors will hold (willing to risk it) and then choosing which of the “free” countries is the most appealing.

Croatia is our choice and we are delighted to be travelling again. We head off on Wednesday (22nd) with a plan to explore Croatia for 5 weeks, starting and ending in Split and taking in cities, mountains and islands. When it comes to seeing how much has changed, we don’t yet know what we will find, but the intention is to secure accommodation just before we move on, each time.

And so it is that in four days’ time our travels resume, taking Easyjet to Split, where we currently have three nights’ accommodation booked. That’s all we’ve booked for now, the rest will be pieced together as we explore much of what Croatia has to offer.

A stock of face masks sit ready to go; we continue to keep an eye on changes, hoping that we are able to enjoy these 35 days without another hasty return home.

The adventure resumes….
